right now I'm reading Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner and it's pretty good. It does have a bit a mystery storyline woven in but I'm not finished yet, so I can't really offer much of an opinion. But she does include a lot of (very) current references, like Twitter and Barack Obama, which I was surprised to see.
I tried to start reading the True Blood series, but the books are all checked out so I had to place a few holds and just wait...
Are you on goodreads.com?
But Julie? Was annoying. Whiny. And I wanted to just smother her with a thousand pillows while reading that book. I haven't seen the movie but i've heard that the Julia Child role in the movie is superb.
I've read reviews about Sarah Dessen but haven't read any of her books, might be more inclined because I love How To Deal (and any movie with Mandy Moore in it)
And "bleaders" is gross. Ew.
I recently finished "The Lost City of Z". I don't typically read non-fiction but I thought it was interesting enough. Now I'm in the middle of "Ahab's Wife". It's not a quick read, but I'm curious to find out what happens so I'll slog through.
I loved Certain Girls, speaking of crying a lot. I haven't sobbed that hard in a long time.
I just read Jennifer Weiners latest book Best Friends Forever and I'm just gonna say it...WORST BOOK EVER. I love all of her books but this one was poorly written, had weak characters, and lacked a great plot (like her other books). Also, I felt like I was in an episode of some teen drama that gets solved in the final 2 minutes because the big issues in the book were resolved in the last 5 pages. SERIOUSLY.
Next up...the true blood books :)
I heart Sarah Dessen! She and Meg Cabot are two of my fave female Young Adult authors. Also, "bleaders" is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
because DAMN he's older than jesus and tattooed
:)
Also, I love the picture at the top of your post :)
I also read Julie and Julia. I didn't HATE it, but I didn't LOVE it either. I'm anxious to see the movie though.
P.S. I'm back to blogging, and I have a new URL! Come on over! carrieleablogs.com
I'm reading Chocolat right now (Joanne Harris) so I can read the sequel to it, Girl with No Shadow. She also wrote Gentlemen & Players which is a great book (I think).
I am going to start Living Dead in Dallas after I finish Chocolat and I've also started the Wind-UP Bird Chronicles, by Murakami as part of a reading challenge I've joined.
Happy reading, even if it's in large print =)
I also hated Julie & Julia. I think I got half-way through the first chapter & called it quits.
I have the first Sookie book floating around somewhere, I should actually crack it open! I'm reading a really shitty annoying chick lit book I got for $1 somewhere. Starting a new reading project on my birthday so am trying to get through some fluff before I start the seriousness!
I love Jen Weiner, but NOT Certain Girls or Goodnight Nobody. Boring.
Please try Jen Crusie! Pretty pretty please for me!
That's right, I said WHOOP.
At any given time, I am reading one of the Sookie books. It's so bad, but I'm glad that you agree that we need more Eric. The next book comes out in October, and I cannot wait to see what happens with it!
I have read some Jennifer Weiner... I have the book that is a collection of stories, I think it is called The Guy Not Taken. anyway, only read a few of the short stories but I liked them. and I have heard good things about Good in Bed so maybe I should add that to my ever-growing list of books to read.
and I am so sad to hear you didn't like Julie & Julia! I picked that up the other day but haven't read it yet. I haven't seen the movie yet either! hopefully I will like the book better than you but that "bleader" thing is weird!
I just picked up After You by Julie Buxbaum yesterday and can't put it down (if you haven't already read it, you should pick up her debut novel The Opposite of Love)!
If you're not already a member of Goodreads, you should sign up and definitely sign up for the giveaways section (early review copies and member giveaways)!
Currently? Between work, class, and avoiding homework, I've been devouring Chuck Klosterman lately. LOVE him.
