I also enjoyed the Clan of the Cave Bear Series (mature audiences only!) which is about 5 or 6 books I think. Steven King's Gunslinger series were also a good long read. Let me know if you check any of those out :)

Re: bookish (part three)

Not that this should be in any way surprising, but I've read Jennifer Weiner! Well, one book: In Her Shoes! Which I loved, just as I adored the movie. Of course.

Currently? Between work, class, and avoiding homework, I've been devouring Chuck Klosterman lately. LOVE him.

Re: bookish (part three)

I just finished "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer, and last week I re-read The Far Away Tree books by Enid Blyton, wanted to recapture my childhood. Next on my list is "Chasing Daisy" by an author called Paige Toon. I loved her previous two novels so hoping to like this one too...

Re: bookish (part three)

I loved Little Earthquakes and thought Goodnight Nobody was good, but I couldn't really get into Best Friends Forever.

I just picked up After You by Julie Buxbaum yesterday and can't put it down (if you haven't already read it, you should pick up her debut novel The Opposite of Love)!

If you're not already a member of Goodreads, you should sign up and definitely sign up for the giveaways section (early review copies and member giveaways)!

Re: bookish (part three)

I haven't read any of the sookie books but I do love True Blood, so maybe I should? but then maybe that would ruin the series because I would know what is coming? hmm, I don't know...

I have read some Jennifer Weiner... I have the book that is a collection of stories, I think it is called The Guy Not Taken. anyway, only read a few of the short stories but I liked them. and I have heard good things about Good in Bed so maybe I should add that to my ever-growing list of books to read.

and I am so sad to hear you didn't like Julie & Julia! I picked that up the other day but haven't read it yet. I haven't seen the movie yet either! hopefully I will like the book better than you but that "bleader" thing is weird!

Re: bookish (part three)

I read Julie and Julia a few weeks ago, and I enjoyed the book all right. It wasn't what I thought it was, though it made me strongly consider becoming a vegetarian in the lobster chapter and made me want to cook some more. I wasn't a fan of the bleader thing, though. Not a bit.

At any given time, I am reading one of the Sookie books. It's so bad, but I'm glad that you agree that we need more Eric. The next book comes out in October, and I cannot wait to see what happens with it!

Re: bookish (part three)

I would whoop anyone who tried to call me a "bleader".

That's right, I said WHOOP.

Re: bookish (part three)

Awww. Maybe I'm just burnt out on sassy memoirs. :(

I have the first Sookie book floating around somewhere, I should actually crack it open! I'm reading a really shitty annoying chick lit book I got for $1 somewhere. Starting a new reading project on my birthday so am trying to get through some fluff before I start the seriousness!

I love Jen Weiner, but NOT Certain Girls or Goodnight Nobody. Boring.

Please try Jen Crusie! Pretty pretty please for me!

Re: bookish (part three)

haha i'm reading 'julie and julia' as you know and i don't hate it. but i don't love it. it's got that quirkiness to it i sort of like but yeah i agree, something's missing. but man do i want to go see that movie. and then i think next up is "a tree grows in brooklyn", my cousin recommended it and i'm quite curious to read it.

Re: bookish (part three)

I'm almost through with the first Sookie book now. I very very rarely will see a movie without having read the book first. Is that weird? Probably.

I'm reading Chocolat right now (Joanne Harris) so I can read the sequel to it, Girl with No Shadow. She also wrote Gentlemen & Players which is a great book (I think).

I am going to start Living Dead in Dallas after I finish Chocolat and I've also started the Wind-UP Bird Chronicles, by Murakami as part of a reading challenge I've joined.

Happy reading, even if it's in large print =)

Re: bookish (part three)

Love Sarah Dessen! It's a written by a college girl after having found one of her high school teachers dead. She decides to tell the story as a means of catharsis, and I must say it's a page turner! It's a pretty fat book, and I'm only 200-some-odd pages in, but I'm really enjoying it!

Re: bookish (part three)

Oh thank god. I also hated Julie and Julia. But I forced myself to read the whole thing, because I too hate not finishing books. But the book doesn't get any better. I kept telling myself, something good has to happen, I mean the made a movie out of this book. And... nothing. No drama, no climax, nothing. BOOOO RING. But now I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse series, which are wonderful, and next I want to read "Italian for Beginners" and "Time Traveler's Wife" Oh, and "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo."

P.S. I'm back to blogging, and I have a new URL! At work i am trying valiantly at the second time of asking to force my way through Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susannah Clarke. My favourite author series is the Merry Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton (i also adore Anita Blake) and the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. Vampires, Werewolves sex and magic, what more does a girl need?

Re: bookish (part three)

I'm attempting to start "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides for the FIFTH TIME. Here's the problem: I'm totally enthralled for about 20 pages. Then my eyes start to glaze over and I start daydreaming about the perfect boots and before I know it I've turned 4 pages and not read any of it.

I heart Sarah Dessen! She and Meg Cabot are two of my fave female Young Adult authors. Also, "bleaders" is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Re: bookish (part three)

I just started Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin and I'm addicted. I love simple cute chick lit and this book is gonna be a great quick read.
I just read Jennifer Weiners latest book Best Friends Forever and I'm just gonna say it...WORST BOOK EVER. I love all of her books but this one was poorly written, had weak characters, and lacked a great plot (like her other books). Also, I felt like I was in an episode of some teen drama that gets solved in the final 2 minutes because the big issues in the book were resolved in the last 5 pages. SERIOUSLY.
Next up...the true blood books :)
